In accordance with the mandate of the Education for People with Disabilities Act (IDEA), Williamson County Schools Special Education (WCS) is devoted to providing the least restrictive environment (LRE) for all students. To guarantee that each student gets the help they need to learn, a variety of services are available depending on the decision made by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team. The IEP is accessible to all regular education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, and other service providers responsible for its implementation. Every public school child who receives special education and related services must have an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The IEP team must include a person who can interpret the educational implications of the evaluation results, as well as at least one special education teacher for the child or, if applicable, at least one provider of the child's special education. Evaluation ResultsThe results of the evaluation will be used to decide if the child is eligible for special education and related services and to make decisions about the appropriate educational program for the child.
This may include developing post-secondary educational and professional goals, obtaining work experience while still in school, establishing links with adult service providers, such as the vocational rehabilitation agency, as appropriate for the student, taking into account their interests, preferences, abilities, and needs.
Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)If parents disagree with the evaluation, they have the right to take their child to an independent educational evaluation (IEE). The IEA Program provides parents and students with access to public education funds to use for certain types of approved educational expenses that best fit their own unique needs.
Preparing for an Educational EvaluationTo meet the requirement in paragraph (b) () of this section, a meeting must be held to prepare an IEP for the child within 30 days of determining that the child needs special education and related services.
